Something I'm working on. This is suppose to Captain America from the movie, drawing in his little notebook. (Yeah, that scene really appealed to the artist in me. lol )

Anyway, I'd really appreciate some critique on this. Mainly the anatomy, but if there's anything else that catches your eye that needs fixing, please let me know. :)

i think the anatomy works just fine there. in some places, you could probably enforce the dimensionality a bit more, like his right forearm angling a bit more clearly away, into the picture: have us look not strictly side-on onto his elbow, have the elboy joint itself obstruct the root of the forearm, make the edge of his glove follow the circumference of his arm, have the wrist obstruct the root of the hand - that kind of stuff.

what i think would profit the drawing more is a bit more care to the gesture of his pose. right now, he looks really stiff: straight upper legs, straight lower legs, straight back, all at right angles. just go and slump yourself into a corner and pretend to draw into a notebook, look at what pose you assume. look at how you position yourself and your props, and what that pose feels like. try to get that feeling into it.
i just slumped down for a pretend notebook scribbling session before i sat down to write this comment. this is what i came up with: i had more varied angles in my hips and knees. i especially needed one leg a bit higher up to comfortably prop my notebook against it. i dont put the notebook all the way down, almost against my hip, because thats uncomfortable. i also rested my left arm over the knee of my left leg and used my hand to hold the notebook against my leg. most importantly, i instinctively slumped down into a curl: my lower back sagged, pulling all of my back into a curve. i even continued that curve with my neck, slumping it way forward to look more intently at my notebook.
holding the neck all straight, and just angling the head down, like your cap does, looks like there is a certain distance between himself and that notebook. like hes not engaging into the scribbling. my pose certainly felt like i curled up into my notebook, shutting the world out.

thats what i think could really improve the drawings impact. your anatomy works. now go and use it to sell us a pose that tells us what he is thinking about! give him a pose with expression and weight, throw him out of that perfectly aligned side view for some added naturalness. animation artists (oldfashioned, hand-drawn animation!) are a gold mine for making drawings that read well, have a clear silhouette and signal their intent in a few milliseconds time! looking up some greats like disneys nine old men (especially marc davis and milt kahl!) is going to be time well spent. :)
